Descendants of William Lake


35. FRANCIS MARTHA4 LAKE (PEYTON3, VINCENT2, WILLIAM1) was born September 12, 1836, and died June 17, 1910. She married THOMAS T. SELVEY September 13, 1855 in Pruntytown, WV - Taylor County, son of JAMES SELVEY.

Notes for FRANCIS MARTHA LAKE:
Francis and Thomas were married on September 13, 1855 - the day following her 19th birthday. The Methodist minister at Pruntytown, Rev. F. H. Reed, performed the ceremony. They began housekeeping on a farm one-half mile south of Clayville (near Simpson, West Virginia). Thomas' father, James Selvey, owned property there.

PARKER SELVEY

Much information on the Lakes/Selveys included in this book came from an old manuscript compiled by Parker Selvey of Grafton, West Virginia. It appears from that record that Parker was the son of Dora Bell Selvey (above) prior to her marriage to James Lewis Goodrim. The record does not admit that, but he has his mother's maiden name. Parker was born Sunday October 6, 1878, married Nelia Evelyn Nixon on Sunday December 10, 1911 and had no children. He died in Grafton (WV) Hospital of a heart attack on November 8, 1960. He is buried at Simpson, West Virginia. Bertha Lake Westfall of Grafton had a copy of his research in 1968 and I produced a typewritten copy of this record which is included in my workpapers (Rex Lake, Author).

According to the Taylor County birth records, Lemuel Lake was a blacksmith at Claysville. Harriet was the daughter of John and Isabelle Yates Newlon.
