Times West Virginian Obituary - August 24, 1993

Gertrude Beacom, 85, formerly of the Fairmont Hotel, died Monday evening at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born in Taylor County, West Virginia December 6, 1897, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Henderson Lake. She was married twice, to the late Draper Tennant and the late Harry A. Beacom. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Frederick J. (Margaret) Chapin, M.D., of Cookville, Tennessee. One brother, Edward C. Lake and a sister, Effie Vandergrift, are deceased. She was a member of the Baptist Temple.

Friends may call at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Dr. David P. Ludeker officiating. The body will be taken to the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette, Michigan for funeral services and interment at the Marlette Cemetery.

56. WILLIAM W.⁴ LAKE (NIMROD A.³, GEORGE B.², WILLIAM¹) was born May 05, 1868 in Taylor County, WV, and died May 12, 1946. He married NANCY LINN October 23, 1901 in Marion County, WV, daughter of SAMUEL LINN and BETSY RUDY.

Notes for WILLIAM W. LAKE:
None of the above three children ever married. They were born and spent their entire lives in the house of their grandfather, Nimrod Lake, as did their father. I (the author) visited on several occasions with Rufus and Florence and received much information on the Lake family.

William Lake was a farmer. Nancy was the daughter of Samuel (White Sam) and Betsy Rudy Linn. William and Nancy were married on October 23, 1901.

Florence died at the Rosewood Health Care Center in Grafton, West Virginia and was buried at the Hebron Church Cemetery (Glady Creek, near Fairmont, WV).

In his will in Harrison County, Grafton, West Virginia, William W. Lake leaves all property to his wife Nancy. At her death, all property is to go to his three children: Rufus L. Lake, Alma L. Lake, and Florence V. Lake, all of Taylor County, WV. His son Rufus is to be the executor.
