  Notes for PARKER SELVEY:
PARKER SELVEY

Much information on the Lakes/Selveys included in this book came from an old manuscript compiled by Parker Selvey of Grafton, West Virginia. It appears from that record that Parker was the son of Dora Bell Selvey (above) prior to her marriage to James Lewis Goodrim. The record does not admit that, but he has his mother's maiden name. Parker was born Sunday October 6, 1878, married Nelia Evelyn Nixon on Sunday December 10, 1911 and had no children. He died in Grafton (WV) Hospital of a heart attack on November 8, 1960. He is buried at Simpson, West Virginia. Bertha Lake Westfall of Grafton had a copy of his research in 1968 and I produced a typewritten copy of this record which is included in my workpapers (Rex Lake, Author).

Notes for B
ENJAMIN FRANKLIN WALLER:
Gertrude and Harriet were born in Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois. The other children were born in Taylor County, West Virginia. After Caroline's death, Benjamin married Emily Emma Meredith (310) on November 4, 1880. Emily was the daughter of Thomas and Edith A. Hartley Meredith.

Emily Emma Meredith Waller was born November 18, 1847 and died October 9, 1887. She is buried at the Baileytown Methodist Church Cemetery at Rosemont, West Virginia.

After Emily's death, Benjamin married for the third time on May 26, 1889 to Sarah Catherine Freeman (311). She was the daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Ann Finley Freeman. Sarah was born May 13, 1839 and died April 20, 1920. Benjamin and Sarah lived in Ritchie County, West Virginia near Mahone, between Harrisville and Smithville. They had no children.

Benjamin Franklin Waller was born in the Cameron Parish area of Loudoun County, Virginia. His father was a blacksmith. Benjamin was the youngest of fourteen children and the only one of the sons who did not learn at least some knowledge of the blacksmith trade.

Sometime between 1844 and 1850, the George Waller family came to Taylor County, Virginia (now West Virginia), as they are enumerated in the 1850 census of Taylor County. Also, a married son, Joseph and his wife Priscilla Shores Waller, moved with them. It is believed that the Wallers were motivated to move to Taylor County because of the work created for blacksmiths by the building of a railroad westward. Joseph Waller, also a blacksmith, followed the railroad as it progressed westward and was enumerated in the 1870 census of Ritchie County. At that time, he was a resident of Cairo, West Virginia. During the 20th century, numerous Wallers worked as engineers, firemen, brakemen and conductors on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. During the Civil War, four of George Waller's sons fought on the Union side of the conflict:
Charles L. Waller - Company A, 14th West Virginia Infantry
George Harrison Waller - Company F, 6th West Virginia Cavary
Thomas J. Waller - Company F, 6th West Virginia Cavalry and Company D, 17th West Virginia Infantry
Benjamin Franklin Waller - Company H, 12th West Virginia Infantry.

Benjamin was a coal miner after the war, first in Lincoln, Illinois and then in Taylor County, West Virginia before becoming a farmer at Mahone, West Virginia. He was a member of the King Knob Methodist Church at Mahone.
