From the author (L. Rex Lake): Aunt Mamie and Uncle Wayne were like parents to me and we lived near their home all my growing up years. They took me to church with them, I played at their home and Christine and Myrtle Mae treated me like their little brother. One of Aunt Mamie's favorite sayings to me when I was just a little guy was "do you live around here or ride a bicycle". I later used it on my own kids and grandkids. I have many great memories of their home: helping catch all the chickens when Uncle Wayne sold his fryers for market, reading all his old Life magazines he stored in an old chicken house, riding to school and work with Uncle Wayne, Sunday dinner at their house and Aunt Mamie's great cooking. They were a grand couple who truly loved each other and worked hard at always keeping that relationship alive. I can still see them taking evening walks and holding hands. That seemed strange to me as a child, because these were old married folks and should have outgrown that. It was many years later that I learned to appreciate the love they showed each other and shared with the world. I shall always remember them with great love and affection.
