Notes for L
AWRENCE FLEMING SHEPHARD:
BIRTH: Possibly PA (near Hayfield Twp. in Crawford Co) as is where found in future census.

NAME: It seems that Lawrence's name may have looked like or been mistakenly given as Larimer on the 1850 Crawford Co, PA census. The name Lawrence appears more often and no mention is made again of a Larimer.

Per Cristy Sprague (a descendent of Lawrence and his son, Hiram A.), Lawrence spelled his last name Shephard. The story was similar to the twins not liking each other (his brothers, James and Thomas). Why he changed his as well is a mystery to them. Another story she heard, "assumed reason for the name change of Thomas was, he wanted to assert his independence because he was a twin. Thay may be why he changed the spelling.".
