LAND DEED: dated April 10 , 1889 found between the two of them and another found dated the same day between them and Thomas W. Sheppherd. Their name is spelled Sheppherd in these documents.

NAME: Per Cristy Sprague (a descendent of Lawrence and his son, Hiram A.), Lawrence spelled his last name Shephard. The story was similar to the twins not liking each other (his brothers, James and Thomas). Why he changed his as well is a mystery to them. Another story she heard, "assumed reason for the name change of Thomas was, he wanted to assert his independence because he was a twin. Thay may be why he changed the spelling.".

THEORY: Believe Mary remarried abt 1897 to Edward Chase. Found a census record that fits her age with a son (Edward listed as step-son) on the 1910 Saginaw Co, Brady Twp census. Since James died in 1893, this would fit. To confirm, would need to find some other of Edgar's siblings that would match. Note that the census below says Mary was on her first marriage, though).

Birthplace for Hiram: PA? Birthplace for Mariah was MI. Occupation at time of marriage was farmer (Hiram), it noted she was daughter of George Holmes & Mary Richardson.

BIRTH: Ken Gibbons had Venango County or Crawford County, PA as place of birth per a census record he found. However, his birth certificate stated it as OH.
