In conjunction with researching my mothers family (Thomas) of Everingham, East Yorkshire, I am naturally looking back into my fathers family (Lamb) who have been connected with Pocklington, East Yorkshire over 400 years. I have my late uncle Derek to thank for many of the dates and in particular information about where family members left England for a life elsewhere in the world. A fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration in 2000 started me to consider a study of our family history. I have always been interested in my own ancestry but have not been able to devote the time needed to check things out. And time is the one thing you do need to follow your research wherever that may take you. My father has recently been filling in some gaps left by my late uncle. One imagines that where people have been more mobile in recent decades, that future generations will have just as difficult a task to family history research, even with todays technology.
Like many families 250 years ago in rural Britain, the Lamb's were people who had worked the land as farm labourers or farmers in some cases. The industrial revolution changed all that and many family members became highly educated to follow a professional occupation, or master tradesmen. Music and Master Painters feature in the nineteenth century. I always welcome any information, however small and correction to dates etc. Please email me if necessary. Likewise if I can help somebody, just email!
