This is a report of my ancestors on both my father's and mother's side of the family. The Lamoureux family was from Quebec Province, Canada. My Great-grandparents, Louis and Sophia Lamoureux immigrated to the United States and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. While living there my Grandfather Amedee was born in 1857. Some time after that they moved to Salix, Iowa where they had another son, Theodore, in 1869.
My Grandmother, Eliza Martin Lamoureux, was born Lake Champlain, NY. She moved with her mother and brothers and sisters to Salix, IA after her father was killed in a wagon accident. She married Amedee Lamoureux in 1880 in Sioux City, IA and had six children, three boys and three girls.
My Grandfather, John Steven Johnson, was born in St. Peter, MN shortly before a serious Indian massacre occured in that town. I remember my Grandmother Johnson telling me that the Indians spared their lives because Great grandmother Johnson had been kind to the local Indians.
My Great grandmother, Elizabeth Gullberg, emigrated from Sweden and came to St. Paul, MN where she was employed as a seamstress and a dressmaker by wealthy ladies. In this manner, she learned to speak English and became a successful business woman and property owner. After her marriage to Peter Freeman who also was born in Sweden, they had one child, Annie Freeman, who became my beloved grandmother. When Annie was thirteen years old, her mother and she went back to Sweden and convinced many of their relatives to join them in America. Most of these people settled in Albert Lea, MN.
This genealogical study also includes the family of my wife, Roberta Troxel Lamoureux. Her father's name was Russell Brough Troxel and her mother's name was Ruth Nelson. My wife has two living sisters, Carolyn Snustad and Marilyn Selly. Her brother, Rodger Nelson Troxel is deceased.
