ENJAMIN F. SCOTT:
Benjamin Scott came into Kanawha County very early in the history of the Kanawha Valley is attested by the fact that his land holdings and Slave title documents are listed in the very first deed books of Kanawha County
In Kanawha County's deed book Volume U-V, page 629 there is a deed signed by Benjamin F. Scott dated February 25, 1859, that would free his slaves. There were twelve freed in this document, each slave was to have a copy, stating his freedom.

He married REBECCA ANN COOPER July 12, 1838 in Kanawha County, (WV) Virginia, daughter of BAILES COOPER and REBECCA THOMPSON. She was born Abt. 1816 in Monroe County, Virginia/West Virginia, and died Abt. 1868 in Scott Mountain, Boone County, West Virginia.

ICHARD (UNCLE DICK) SCOTT:
      Richard Scott (1807- 1868)
son of John Scott and Amelia


      Richard Scott purchased and settled the "Rock House Survey" and it was here that he first sank his families roots. Two years after purchasing this land, he married Rebecca Ann Cooper (July 12, 1838 Daughter of Bales Cooper and Rebecca Ann Thompson.\
It was located on Clear Creek, North Fork of Coal River, Fayette County West Virginia/West Virginia. He later bought "Scott Mountain" in partnership with John F. Clay (who had married into the Cooper Family) and connected with our Clay's of Kentucky. He was able to incorporate this property (later to be known as "Scott Mountain" with the "Rock House Survey". This mountain is where the "Scott Family" grew and spread out. This mountain would bring new and exciting chapters to the Scott Family for over One Hundred years.\
      A school house was built on this property, and a teacher brought in to teach the children. The family timbered the land. This land provided everything to sustain life.
The 1850 Raleigh County Census Schedules, in West Virginia lists Richard, age 45 years, his wife Rebecca at 27 years. Philimenia Frances at 11 years. Issac age 9 years. William at 7 years and Isam ? at 5 years.
