As the owner of a successful west end general store, James Lambie fought for the survival of the businesses of the west end in the 1870s. When the town council decided to move the ferry dock from the west end, Lambie led a campaign to halt movement of the dock. As the result of his efforts, town council allowed the Ferry St. dock to re-open.
