the tombstones in Tarbolton churchyard is one erected in memory of a local farmer, John Lambie, who died on 17 August 1863. In addition to his farm, Lambie owned land and property on Hood's Hill. His grandson (seen here in this 1890's photograph with Mauchline carpenter Matthew Hamilton, an old school friend) claimed that Lambie was a contemporary of Robert Burns.
