Unfortunately my grandparents had passed away before I was born. I'm not sure why, but quite suddenly I became interested in finding something out about them. Before I knew it, with the help of some incredibly nice people on the Internet, the old photo albums which I never knew existed and the very distant relatives I have made contact with, I had compiled an index of some 200 people, photos and even a few stories.
I am researching the ancestors of my grandfather Oskar Johannes Branting (1899-1959) born in Monå, Finland and my grandmother Edit Sofia Måtar (1902-1963) born in the neighboring village, Jeppo, Finland.
Oskar immigrated to Canada in 1929 and Edit in 1930. They met in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for the first time and were married there on January 21, 1933.
Eventually, due to few work prospects they moved to the town of Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island where they raised a family of 3 sons, Ralf, Angus and Herb and a daughter, Marlene.
