Notes for Charlotte Ableman: Charlotte Ableman, youngest of four children of Jenny Schwartz and Harry Ableman, born in 1929 in Columbus, Ohio, where she and her siblings and their many cousins grew up in close contact.
Charlotte's siblings were: Molly, Mimi, and Eli Ableman. Their familial connections were the Ablemans, Schwartz, Greenberg and Itzkowitz aka Harris. Through marriage, the rest of this FTM site has included Hellers and many others......the direct connection between Charlotte Ableman Braverman and Yonina aka Joanne Phyllis Heller Lamdan, being that of second couins. Charlotte was the daughter of Jenny Schwartz Ableman, and Yonina was the daughter of Ida Greenberg Heller, daughter of Jenny's sister, Fanny Schwartz Greenberg.
Charlotte Ableman married Jerry Braverman and they had three children: Steven, Laurie and Lisa Braverman. The Braverman family grew up in Dayton, Ohio.

My mother came to America at the age of 16 not to marry anyone but to live with her sister, your grandmother, until she decided what she wanted to do. She lived with her a while and then went to Columbus. She met my father there and had not known of him previously. He was from Russia.
Thought I would correct your info.
Will write again soon. LOVE
Charlotte, Thanks for that info. I've added it to the files.......and it will be included in the next update. Interesting fact: I just realized that our great-grandmother, Leah Itzkowitz, was no doubt part of the same Itzkowitz family as the forefathers of the Harris family! They had changed their name officially from Itzkowitz to Harris, in Columbus! It was a known thing in those days, for "cousins" to marry.......thus the further connection between the Itzkowitz, aka Harris family, Greenbergs (my grandfather, Emil's, sister Adela, married Abraham Itzkowitz, and they were the ones who changed their name and their children were: Ben, Sam, Harry, Dave, Minnie!). Small world of familial connections in this world of genealogy!

I knew that and forgot to include it in my messages. Ben is Norma Jean's father, and he's the one that my father brought into his jewelry business when Ben was starting out. Ben's mom and dad were Mema Chayela and Fetter Morris who were the ones that changed their names. Mema (Aunt) was known all over Columbus because she cooked huge meals and anyone who was Jewish who came through Columbus and needed a place to eat or stay was welcomed into her home. She was Minnie Mendelman's mom and that's where Minnie learned to be the great cook she was. Fetter (uncle) was very quiet and you hardly ever heard him speak.
Wow! You keep shaking my brain.
What a wonderful family you have!! It is so good to know all about your beginnings in Israel and to know about your husband, children, and grandchildren. Your lives seem to have been so full of accomplishment and to be able to have the years in Israel, and be a part of that great country's growth must be so rewarding. I know there are many hardships that you must have endured during some of the rough years, and particularly now, but we here in America owe you a great debt. I, for one, do not ever forget that. I'm not surprised that you have shown your artistic heritage. Our family, including Yaacov (?) or Jackie as I remember him when he was just a little boy, and Benny Greenberg and so many others have been blessed with talent. I remember getting mail from Benny when he was in the islands during the 2nd World War and the envelope was all decorated with pictures in color of his surroundings. As a kid, I was so thrilled. You mention your sister, and I think she was named Marsha. Am I right? Where does she live? I can't believe I left my sister Molly out of my communication. She died when she was only 30 of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was living in Miami Beach with her husband, Jimmy Weinberger, a pharmacist who was a nephew of Adolph Weinberger, the Gray's Drug Store founder. She and Jimmy had no children. The Schwartz family in New York were my uncle Sam and his second wife, Ida, who had a son, who was a columnist and reviewed arts and literature for National Public Radio and I think the Boston Globe. Uncle Izzy and Mary had 8 children and I don't know any of their names, except Rae, and I remember, now, that she was a red-head and her husband lost an arm in the war. I just know that some of them had bright red hair. Funny what a little child remembers. Aunt Mary had three boys, Charlie who worked for a greeting card company and did silk-screening in Cleveland when it was innovative to do that process; Dave who I remember when he was in the Navy (also the 2nd World War) and Leon. What a pity that we lost contact with all of them. I haven't yet been able to access the family tree. I'm still trying, but I may need some help. I don't have a scanner so I don't know how to send photos, either, but maybe I'll develop some new talents in the future....I have retired from teaching and am working harder than ever but getting paid nothing. I schedule an Orchestra & You program with the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteers. We go in to the school with two excellent programs for first and second graders and fourth and fifth graders as well as some competitions for junior strings and high school. Besides sitting on the Boards of the Philharmonic, Hadassah, and in the past, my Synagogue, I play Bridge, am part of a Playreading group that meets twice a month and so many other things, I can't think of them all right now. I am a very busy lady, and I love everything that I am doing. I think I told you that Steve, my son, was a Science teacher and Athletic Director at the Jr. High when he had a heart attack while jogging in 1982 at the age of 27. He fell over by the side of the road and luckily was seen by a Patrol Car and rushed to the hospital. He had no ID on him but thank G__ the person he was jogging with got home and looked around and couldn't find him so he went back and found the cruisers, etc., and identified him. He was expected to die so they put him in a drug induced coma for two weeks and as a result he lost all memory/learning and spent the next couple of years re-learning, but he has not been able to work more than part time and can never teach again. He works at the Jewish Community Center. Six months after Steve's heart attack, Jerry, my husband, died of his one and only heart attack. I think the stress of Steve's situation was too much for him. We had stayed with Steve around the clock in the various hospitals and it was very hard on us, but our son survived. My middle daughter, Laurie, is a Court Reporter and works too hard, and my youngest daughter, Lisa, is an Internist and also works too hard. She has her own practice with another female doctor and they are much too busy. Both of my girls live in Columbus, but Steve lives here in Dayton and all three have their own homes. I think I've overdone it this time, so I'll close for now. Please keep them coming this way. Love, Charlotte
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just got back on my computer after having been in New York and am so excited. I heard from Norma Jean before I left and she told me all about your contact with her and I didn't have time to write to you before I left, but I've told my three children about your EMail already and I want you to know how happy I am to hear from you. I'm going to call Norma as soon as I finish writing this because I'm sure she'll be interested in knowing that we finally met on the internet. Isn't it amazing??? I know Eli visited with you a number of years ago before he was even married. He did get married to Esther Berman who had been previously married and had a daughter Renee who adored Eli. Esther and Eli had twin boys, Michael who is married to Sue and lives in Texas with their three children, twin girl and boy and another boy. All three of them are under 3 yrs old, and Scott who is married to Debbie and lives in Virginia with a son and a daughter. My sister Mimi lives in Dayton now after living 50 years. in Boston. Her daughter died ten years ago, Debbie, a very special woman. Mimi's married name (her first husband, Don Bickoff, was killed during the D-Day invasion at Normandy), and she remarried a number of years later to Philip Fisher. Debbie, John, and Howard are from her second marriage. The boys live in Philadelphia and Cape Cod, John divorced with one child, Ben, and Howard, married to Jean. My three children, Steve had a heart attack while jogging at Age 27 and was a Science teacher but works only part time at the Jewish Center here in Dayton; Laurie lives in Worthington, is a court reporter; and Lisa who is a doctor lives in Dublin, both of which are suburbs of Columbus. None of my children are married so I have no grandchildren but I haven't given up hope completely. I don't want to overdo our first exchange so I'll cut out for now except to give you Norma's phone number, 614-237-0633. Please write back and ask anything, tell me everything, and maybe we can look forward to actually being together some time in the future. I'm an avid supporter of Israel and do watch the news and keep up to date as to what is going on as best we can, but it's especially good to be able to write to you and hear directly from you about everything. Love, Charlotte
