Notes for Yona Pinchasi (AKA Beckman): Yona Beckman was born in Kamenetz-Podolsk, Russia. His three siblings, Rose, Shika and Sam went to the United States to seek their fortunes and make their new life. Yona went to Palestine to work as a halutz (pioneer) in Kibbutz Kiryat Anavim. He changed his family name to a Hebrew one, as was the custom of many Zionists.....from Beckman to Pinchasi, in honor of his father, Pinchas Beckman.
Yona's sister, Rose, married Samuel "Sam" Lerner in NYC, brother of Max Lerner, father of Marvin and Eleanor. Rose and Sam Lerner's son, Paul Lerner was called "Pinnie" by his cousins, from his Hebrew name, Pinchas, after his maternal grandfather, Pinchas Beckman. Marvin "Matz" Michael Lerner changed his family name from Lerner to Lamdan (by translation into Hebrew equivalent) and subsequently found his cousin, Malka Pinchasi Sapir, daughter of Yona, in Kibbutz Urim, where he also settled as a halutz from the USA to Israel. She had come from Kibbutz Kiryat Anavim to help out in the young settlement, Kvutzat Urim, and married Mordechai Sapir, from Petach Tikvah.
This is the connection of the Sapirs and Lamdans whose families were founded and raised in the same kibbutz, having had their start as Beckman and Lerner in Kamenetz-Podolsk! Conicidence which has brought about a large "clan" within the small provincial society of Kibbutz Urim in the Negev, Israel. When Yona and Shika Beckman arrived in Palestine (today: Israel) Yona received the name Pinchasi (after his paternal name) and his brother kept the name Beckman. Yona Pinchasi married Miriam Kira (of Yemenite family in Yavneel, Israel) and they settled in Kiryat Anavim where they raised their family. They had three daughters, Malka,( who moved to Kibbutz Urim, where she married Mordechai Sapir and they raised their three sons), Yaara and Tzofia, both of whom married and started their families in Kiryat Anavim. Yona's sister, Rose Beckman, married Sam Lerner, brother of Max Lerner, father of Matz Lamdan - and this was the connection between Malka and Matz.[Greenberg.FTW]
