Descendants of John Landers

65. JOHN M. "CRAT"5 LANDISS (WILLIAM4, WILLIAM3, JOHN2 LANDERS, JR., JOHN1) was born 1837 in Birdseye, Indiana225, and died 19 Aug 1919 in Bardley, MO226. He married SARAH E. BYRAM 14 Oct 1856227. She was born 1839 in Birdseye, Indiana228.

Notes for J
OHN M. "CRAT" LANDISS:
The notes of Morris P. Landiss, prepared for distribution at a family reunion, 26 June 1977; indicate that John M. (son of William Landiss and Elizabeth Kincaid) is the same person as John (father of William Morris Landiss). In addition, the geography is correct, the dates are consistent, the spelling is the same (few use the double-S), the name William runs in both lines, and no other John Landiss with appropriate dates has been found in Indiana; so they are certainly the same person: John M. "Crat" Landiss.

Margaret E. Smith lists the place of death as Ripley, MO.

Notes for S
ARAH E. BYRAM:
Missouri census records for 1900 indicate Mary Jane's mother was born in Kentucky.

  Notes for JOHN H. LANDISS:
From an Indiana newspaper, 22 July 1881:

A few days ago Miss Mary E. Brown went to Esq. Allen Cox in Jefferson Township and told him that one John H. Landiss had been loving her very hard, that the result would be a young Landiss after awhile, without any legal father, unless the Squire would aid her -- and she appeared very much "broken up" about it. Squire Cox issued the necessary papers to bring John to time but he had heard of it, and the Constable couldn't find him. But he only stayed away a few days and returned determined to do what was right, and so came down to the County Clerk and got a license about 3 o'clock Wednesday, and is now supposed to be a happy married man.
