Lanee's musical experience began when she was 4. "I stood on a chair behind the piano, and while my mother played, my brother whispered the words of the song to so I could sing," she recalls. A Mount Holly native and 1979 graduate of East Gaston High School, Lanee began a career that led to a stage show, regional tours and two record albums with her family's gospel group, The Lankford Family.

"I sat in Johnny Cash's lap and sang with him when I was 11," Lanee says with a grin, "and our family toured with the Oak Ridge Boys when they were doing strictly gospel music." Lanee plays piano, synthesizer, and a harmonica.

Lanee was also Miss Mount Holly in 1980.
