This is the Revolutionary Army unit that your 5XG-grandfather, John Purser, (1750-1826),of Mecklenburg County, NC, served in. You'll find his name at the bottom of the right-hand column. This unit was engaged in the Cherokee Campaign, an action to suppress the actions of those Indians that allied themselves with the British. These Indian families had the word "Red" added after their names. Those that were friendly to the revolutionaries had the word "White" added to theirs.

John was in Beaufort County for a 1779 tax listing described as "son of Moses:. He was in Mecklenburg County, NC for the 1790 census. He signed up for several weeks (in 1776) of Revolutionary war service with a Mecklenburg Company raised by Capt. John Polk and served at the Cross Creek battle where the loyalist Scots were defeated. He witnessed a deed, with Richard Purser, for Robert Purser and wife Elizabeth on October 1, 1768.
