Descendants of Jacob Rinehart

Generation No. 1

1. JACOB1 RINEHART was born Abt. 1801 in Maryland or Virginia, and died Bet. 1880 - 1900 in Portage County, Ohio. He married (1) JUDITH WILLYARD November 22, 1826 in Portage County, Ohio, daughter of WILLIAM WILLYARD and CATHERINE RITTER. She was born August 06, 1801 in Graceham, Maryland, and died Bet. 1850 - 1855. He married (2) HARRIET AKA "MARIA" BIERE November 22, 1855 in Portage County, Ohio. She was born 1817 in Ohio, and died 1907 in Portage County, Ohio.

Notes for J
ACOB RINEHART:
Jacob says in a book entitled "The Portage and Summit County Pioneer Association" that he settled in 1811. The book is not specific as to where exactly he settled at that time though. Some sources, however, claim that his wife's family, the Willyards, came to Portage County around that same time. Jacob may have been referring to his wife's family when he gave that year.
It is unclear how Jacob's last name is officially spelled. He is recorded as "Rhinehart" in a 1838 Ravenna School district book and a 1874 Portage County settlers book, and the 1840 and 1860 censuses. He is recorded as "Rinehart" in the 1830 and 1850 censuses, and in Portage County marraige records.
His children and grandchildren also have similar inconsistencies with the spelling of their last names.
Jacob has two "free colored people" living with him in 1840. Their names are unknown.
There was a Samuel Reed b. abt. 1833, living with the Rineharts in 1850. He was a laborer. Margaret, Jacob's daughter, married a Lauren Reed, who was b.abt. 1840. Lauren and Samuel could possibly have been brothers.

Notes for H
ARRIET AKA "MARIA" BIERE:
Harriet's tombstone has a GAR (Grand Army of Republic) marking from the Civil War.
Harriet was most likely married before she married Jacob. The 1860 census shows her married to Jacob, and below Jacob's children are the names Joel Berry, age 19; Lyman, age 16; John, age 13; and Lydia B.,age 7. It isn't clear if their last names were all Berry or if that was Joel's middle name.
Harriet and Maria are probably the same person. Only a marraige license of Maria and Jacob was found, and only a census record was found with Harriet. Nothing else was found for either one. The marraige date for Maria and Harriet is 1855 for both of them.
