The primary source of information on the Tilman Martin Family is 'The Germanna Record, No. 1, pgs 53 - 56.Tillman and his family appear in the Fauquier County records.These include: 1.) on 22 April 1771 when Tillman received a deed of 100 acres and 2.) 21 Oct 1779 when Elizabeth, Tilman's executrix deeded to Jeremiah Darnall 70 acres in Germantown possessd by Tilman Martin and subsequently purchased by Hitt, Weaver, Kemper and Fishback.(Ref: Fauquier County Deed Book 4, p. 178).
The will of Tillman Martin, dated 23 May 1778 and probated 26 July 1779 leaves his 70 acres of land to his wife Elizabeth, with directions that it be sold and another plantation purchased for his son Tilman, and 'if he dies to my next youngest son'; leaves a bequest to his daughter Elinor Martin; mentions ' all my children' as residuary legatees after wife's death; and appoints his wife Elizabeth and his son (in law) Elijah Darnall executors; test, Jeremiah Darnall, Thomas Parker, John Parker.[flager2.FTW]
