Dyous & Turner Family Tree
The Dyous and Turner Reunion Committee was established in 1993 to further the research on and education about the Dyous & Turner family. There were seven committee members from around the New Jersey area that saw a need for a central organization to coordinate correspondence, records and other genealogical items. The membership has since grown to over 105 members and growing. Dyous Family Our Grandfather John Dyous married Mag Brown-Dyous. He was a Merchant Seaman working on ships. He was a "Free Man".He was from Portugal West Africa. The ships would travel back and forth from Africa to several American ports such as South Carolina, GA, New Orleans and Louisiana. Our Grandfather James, his brothers Jeff, Westley, John and Clinton all worked and later settled in Georgia with the exception of John Dyous, Jr. who was Grandpop James' brother, who married a French Creo women in New Orleans. Turner Family In 1850's our Great Grandfather Allen Harden was a well-loved slave. He was the only slave with a tombstone in Cuthbert, Georgia. It sits in the middle of the cemetery and is roughly 3 feet tall. No other slave has a marking. He married Martha Sherman-Harden.
