A quote from the Hatcher family Bible in the care of Marie Morgan Hatcher: My Great Grandfather was born in North Carolina about 1790 and came to Tennessee in a covered wagon in 1814 or near this dated entered a tract of land on Big Richland Creek 4 1/2 miles northwest of McEwen. He married Rittie (perhaps Henrietta) (Landon, Landrum) North Carolina in 1810 There were born to them at least 7 children. This goes on to list the children, which are included within this text. The author of the above quote is believed to be Alfred Hatcher.
The 1850 census show's that this John Hatcher (1791) was age 58 and born in South Carolina as was also Rittie. The 1860 Census shows Johns age at 69 to confirm the year of birth.

After years of researching, no one has ever been able to connect John to his parents and that situation still exists. But in October 2002 a descendant of John took a DNA test with the results showing that he likely descends from William Hatcher the Immigrant of HenricoCo, VA. This test result was examined by four different labs, the unanimous conclusion being that John Hatcher, through his paternal line, was not Native American as passed down by family history. This does not preclude NA ancestry through the maternal line. These results can be seen at DNA Test Results --------------------------------
John possibly served in the war of 1812 at the Battle of New Orleans in 1814 with McWillies Inf. of SC.
The 1820 HumphreysCo, TN census shows another male, age 26-44, living with John and family. This male has not been identified and does not appear in the 1830 census.
In 1860 census, John S Hatcher, age 6, is living with John and Ritta. His relationship is unknown.
