Lasell Family History

Updated October 22, 2002

As a child growing up on the coast of Northern California, I was only told about one set of Grandparents on my father's side of the family. These people were the Lasell's. Herman and Selma had left their homes in Finland and traveled across the ocean to America. When they lived in Finland they did not know each other, but as luck would have it, they both moved across an ocean and a country to fatefully meet in Holmes. Holmes, which is now Holmes Flat, is a small town off of U.S. 101 nestled in the towering Redwoods. I always thought this was a wonderfully romantic story and I never even stopped to think about the rest of my ancestors.

As I grew older I realized that the Lasell's were just a small part of my heritage and I began to question my Grandmother about her parents and Grandparents. She didn't know much, in fact all she knew was that her Great-Grandmothers name was Mrs. Cooper and she might be from Kentucky or Missouri. Now anyone that does genealogy will know that there are "just a couple" Cooper's in Missouri and Kentucky! No problem. Well through the use of a computer and many hours in the Humboldt County Public Library I was able to learn quite a bit.

As I learned about my family and my heritage I have met many different people. For those of you who I have already met, THANK YOU, and for those of you I have not met, HELLO and to all, WELCOME!

Although the bulk of my research has been on my Father's side, I am also pursuing my mother's side and I hope as I add information into this database I will find more relatives on her side of the family as well. Although I am just beginning my research, I am willing to share whatever I have uncovered. I am also always looking for information. (Aren't we all!) Please contact me if you would like to learn more. Hopefully someone out there will have common relatives and we will connect.

Thank you for visiting,
Jennifer
