I am researching the LASSITER and COFFIELD families that settled in what is now the southeastern region of Virginia and the northeastern region of North Carolina.
The LASSITER family can be found in both areas as both were once part of the Virginia colony. Predominant counties are: Gates, Isle of Wight, Nansemond, Norfolk, Northampton, Princess Anne, and Southampton. The patriarch of this family was Robert Lassiter believed to have arrived in the Virginia coloy on the "Abigail" from England. He is known to have landholdings Nansemond Co., VA in 1635. Other surnames in this family are:
BARRETT, BRADSHAW, BROWNE, BRINCKLE, CREECY, HARRISON, NORFLEET, PIPKIN, REA, RIDLEY, SCOTT, and WISE.

The COFFIELD family can be found mainly in North Carolina - only moving into southeastern Virginia, as far as I know, after the 1920's. Predominant counties are Chowan, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, and Perquimmans. The earliest infomation I have is for a John COFFIELD and his 2nd wife, Esther SAUNDERS/SANDERS, i the early 1700's. Other surnames are: BIGGS, BLANCHARD, BRINN, CHAPPELL, EVANS, GOODSON, GRAY, HALSEY, HODGES, MICHEL/MITCHELL, NORFLEET, PERRY, RAPER, SANDERS/SAUNDERS, SHEPARD, STYRON, and WINSLOW.

I ahve a lot of information on some of the mentioned surnames and little on others. I am always interested in connecting with others researching any of these names.
