I am researching the LESZCZ family. Chaim Yaacov (a.k.a.: Hyman or Jaim Yankl) LESZCZ was born in Russia in 1879 and he ended up in the town of Ostrow Mazowiecka (5228 2154), Gubernia Lomza, Province Warszawa, Poland by the end of the century. He came to the US through Ellis Island on The Zeeland (Ships Manifest Frame page #1030, line 0010. His name is listed as Main Leschtz in the Ellis Island database.) sailing from Antwerp, March 8, 1913 and arriving at port of New York, March 18, 1913. He also appears in the 1920 US census residing in New York, NY. Chaim's father was Abraham. Chaim had a brother named Julius and a sister possibly named Pearl. Some recent information (as of 8//15/2002 has been identified but not yet confirmed) indicates that Chaim had 3 other siblings Shifra Feigue, Golde, and Freide Rivke. Chaim was married to Eva Plonchak and they had 5 children, George, Shirley, Harry, Morris, and Phillip. The last name was changed from Leshtz to LASH around the middle of the 1920's. Other spellings of the family name are LESCHTZ, LESCHT, LESCHTZ, and LESZCZ (Polish).

I am also researching the GARBER family from Ozry (Jeziory)(5343 2411), in the province of Grodno, Belarus. Kushel Garber was married to Tanya Tobi Borowick and had 13 children, Samuel, Hyman, Yenta, Choney, Boscha, Ida, Gershel, Reuvin, Kieve, Cyvie, Harry, Millie, and Rachel. Rachel (a.k.a., Rose) Garber came to the US through Ellis Island on the SS Ryndam on January 3, 1917 fleeing the Czar. She married Morris Lash and had two children, Carl and Corrine.

Additional names being researched are KLEINMAN from Bassarabia, Russia, FRIEDMAN from Austria, PLONCHAK, and BOROWICK.

Below are old photographs that I have collected over the years. There are some people that cannot be identify. If you recognize any of them or would like to post old photographs of family members, please contact the author at the email address listed at the top of the page.

Key Facts that are Missing

1. When, where, and on what ship did Julius LESHTZ and their families come to the US?
2. Who are the descendents of Pearl LESHTZ?
3. How are Abraham LESHTZ and Abraham LESCHTZ related?
4. Who are the descendents of the children of Kushel GARBER that went to South America and stayed in Belarus?
5. Chaim Leshtz arrived in NY in 1913 and was going to see his uncle H. Plerve. This means that Chaim's father, Abraham, had a sister who was married to H. Plerve. Does anyone have any information on the Plerve family?

Any new information, corrections, additions, etc. would be appreciated. A lot of information has been complied over the years and the author is willing to share.
