3. MARY2 LATTA (WILLIAM1) was born September 07, 1811, and died 1887. She married SPEERS.


       Children of MARY LATTA and SPEERS are:

  i.   WILLIAM HENRY3 SPEERS, b. 1831; d. 1894.

  ii.   REBECCA SPEERS, b. 1833; d. 1905.

  iii.   SARAH SPEERS, b. 1835; d. 1893.

  iv.   MARTHA ISABEL SPEERS, b. 1837; d. 1922.

5. v.   MARIA LUCRETIA SPEERS, b. 1841; d. 1911.
4. WILLIAM2 LATTA (WILLIAM1) was born April 03, 1818 in (near) Belle Vernon, Pa, and died June 17, 1881 in West Elizabeth, Pa. He married MARY JANE GIBENOR September 26, 1820 in Elizabeth, Pa, daughter of JOHN GIBENOR and SARAH PRICE.

Notes for WILLIAM LATTA:
From Robert Latta research document: "William Latta, at age 18, entered the boat yard at Belle Vernon, Pa., and learned the trade of boat building, working there for several years. Later he worked at Cincinnati, Ohio, and then went to Alabama and built his first boat at a place called Honeycomb Valley. In 1843 he embarked in the business at Monongahela, Pa, and a few years later was interested in a yard at California, Pa. He had charge of the Belle Vernon yard. Then returned to Monongahela, Pa. He bought the Elizabeth, Pa. yard and carried on boat building at both places. He built boats for the government and for many individuals, durng the war, and resided at Monongahela, Pa. Later he moved to Elizabeth, from there to West Elizabeth, where he died. The history of boat building in the Monongahela Valley was published in the Elizabeth Herald in June 1900.

Latta Family Bible (from Katherine Latta): Gives name as Mary Jane Stewart & Sarah Gibner as her mother. Married twice, with Stewart as first husband? Remarried after William's death? Note Roland "Stewart" Latta--could he have been child of first marriage? Mary Jane died at Wilkinsburg of "general Breakdown or heart failure, age 83."
