EARLY DAYS IN PAYNE COUNTY--PAYNE COUNTY is one of the picturesque and interesting spots of early day Oklahoma history. Patrick H. Guthrey located in PAYNE COUNTY, APRIL 22, 1889 on a homestead about three miles south of the town of STILLWATER. Upon this town site, on a small block of ground near the center of the forty, they erected a wooded, one story, OCTAGON SHAPE BUILDING. In December 1890, the state's land grant university, OKLAHOMA A&M, was established in Stillwater. OKLAHOMA A&M is now (OSU) OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY.---JP MORGAN AND CHASE BANK--A class action lawsuit has been filed by African-Americans against JP Morgan Chase & Co. Westpoint Stevens Inc. Union Pacific Railroad unnamed defendants, alleging that they profited from the slavery of their ancestors, which the lawsuit defines as a crime against humanity.
