1. JOHN S.² STRICKLAND (ELBERT¹) was born Abt. 1812 in N.C., and died June 16, 1900 in Webster Co., Ms.. He married (1) REBECCA AYERS December 02, 1840 in Barbour Co., Alabama. She was born 1816 in Barbour Co., Alabama, and died Bet. 1848 - 1849 in Choctaw Co., Miss.. He married (2) LYDIA M. DRAKE Abt. 1850 in Choctaw Co., Miss.. She was born Abt. 1816 in Tennessee.

Notes for JOHN S. STRICKLAND:
John Strickland came from Ireland and settled in North Carolina, Alabama, and then came to Eupora, Choctaw Co., Ms.! Buried at Old Greensboro Cemetery, in Webster Co., Ms. They came to Choctaw Co., Ms. after 1840. He could have been married twice, first to Rebecca Ayers, and second to Lydia Drake. In 1894 at the age of 82, he, his wife and daughter Adelaid, a spinster were dismissed from the Greensboro Baptist Church in Webster Co., Ms. The church minutes do not state the reason for dismissed, but it is assumed that they moved out of the community. There was a Elbert Strickland born in 1796 whose mother was Ferrady, and was married to Eviline (Ava Ann) and they had a child named; John S. Strickland. John S. Strickland died June 16, 1900 in Greensboro, Webster Co., Ms.! And was buried at Old Greensboro Baptist Cemetery, in Webster Co., Ms.!

J. S. Strickland was a private in Co. B, 31'st Regt. Infantry - Dixie Guards or Avent Rebels - (Orr's Regtiment)
John S. Strickland enlisted Mar. 4, 1862, in Col. J. A. Orr regtiment. Served Mar. 4, 1862 until Sept. 10, 1864.
