Adam Shaffer was the owner of the following property in Perry Co., Alabama, on Dec. 16, 1837 when he sold it to William W. Stokes, son of Jeremiah Stokes. The east half of the N.W. 1/4 of Section 33, Twp. 21, Range 6 in the District of the land's sold at Cahaba containing 79 acre's, Also two other tract's or parcel's of land laying in the county and state of Perry Co., the west half of the S.W. 1/4 of Section 33, also 80 acre's in the N.W. corner of the east half of the S. W. 1/4 of Section 33, Twp. 21, Range 6.
That same year, 1837, Adam Shaffer and his wife's uncle Caleb Russell Jr. bought a whole section of land in Oktibbeha Co., (now Clay Co.,) Miss.

On Adam Shaffer tombstone, it reads, Sacred to the memory of Adam Shaffer who was born June 13, 1807, and died May 16, 1855. Her to the dreery grave confind, He sleeps in deep dark gloom, Until the eternal morning wakes, The slumber of the tomb.

In later year's Elizabeth "Shaffer" Smith lived with her daughter; Kerren Elizabeth Crawford. She was buried at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hale County, Alabama. Elizabeth was blind before her death, and spoke with a German - Deutch accent!

HOMAS ISAAC SMITH:
Thomas Isaac Smith owned about a section of land at the time of his death in 1860. And he four families of slaves. Thomas had a horse drawn cotton gin. Thomas became ill and went to Mississippi, to visit some Smith & Shaffer relatives, to see a doctor who might help him. He died there in Choctaw Co., Miss., and was buried in the New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Webster Co., Miss.! His son's; Matthew Smith, and George Washington Smith made the trip by train to West Point, Miss., to attend their father's funeral. Thomas Isaac Smith was also a charter member of the New Hope Baptist Church, in Hale County, Alabama. His son Levi Smith was already living there in Choctaw Co., Miss., and he and some of the Shaffer's probably met his brother's in West Point, Ms., to carry them to New Hope area!

  Notes for MARK THOMAS SMITH:
In 1864 when the Confederacy was in desperate straits for soldiers, William H. King of Marion, Ala. recruited a company of boys between the ages of 16 - 18 year's in the counties of Hale, Greene, and Perry. Mark Thomas Smith was one of these. He served as Private, Co. K, Lockhart's Battalion, 1'st Regt. Alabama Reserves. He captured at Fort Gaines during the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 7, 1864. He became sick and died of typhoid fever at St. Louis, Hospital in New Orleans, La.! He was buried in Grave #338, Cypress Grove Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisana.
