I am new to this whole genealogy hobby and would love any help you might be able to provide for doing research outside of this country, namely, in Hong Kong and China. My parents emigrated from Hong Kong to the United States in 1975 (just before I turned 4). My father's siblings are still in Hong Kong and China and my mother's siblings immigrated to the States around the same time that my parents did.If you have any advice to give on doing genealogy research in Asia, I would really appreciate it. Also, has anyone else run across the problem that I have with "lack of names"? For example, all of the relatives I know (with the exception of those who are my age), I call by their title (or relationship) and I never know their names. Unlike the American culture, the Chinese refer to relatives as "older sister of my mother" or "paternal grandmother" instead of "Aunt Susan" or "Grandma Janet". Any advice on this problem would also be a great help.As I find more information on my family, I will post up a new report. Also, if you can help with information on the Kison's (my boyfriend's family name), please send it on my way.Good luck to all you genealogists out there!
