MacDonald, were popular favorites there having appeared on the radio on regular programs. The brother team were known as the "Two Macks" or "Thirteen Feet O' Harmony." Elmer and his brother were also featured over radio stations WGN in Chicago and WDAY in Fargo, ND. Their entertainment consisted of duets with their own accompaniment." Elmer cause of death was TB. Brand, 665 Washington Ave., died yesterday afternoon in St. Joseph's hospital after a short illness. A resident of this vicinity for the last 22 years. Mrs. Brand was born in Embarrass, Wisconsin, July 2, 1878. She was a member of the Baptist church of Guthrie Center, Iowa. "...preceeding her in death were her first husband, James MacDonald who died in 1912; a son Elmer E. MacDonald and two daughters, Iris MacDonald and Imogene Lage. Surviving besides the widower, are three daughters; Mrs. Violet Cross of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Inez Meyers of Elgin and Mrs. Ann Shelton of Deer River, Minnesota; three sons, Grayson MacDonald of Twain, California; Gordon MacDonald of Plainfield, Illinois and Scott Brand of Elgin; two brothers, Glenn Allender of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Samuel Allender of Log Angeles, California and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Aycock of Long Beach, California and Mrs. Luella Jensen of Clarkson, Washington; 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren." When Myrtle was 36, her second marriage was to George Frank Brand. 1880 Navarino Township, Shawano Cty., Wisconsin ED SD 4 Page 7 Dwelling #26, Family #28. Family listed by name as: Jane, Josephine, Walllis, Birthy, Mirthy. In the 1880 United States Census, Navarino, Shawano, Wisconsin, lists the family as: Joseph Allander-48 (father's birthplace-Md, Mother's Birthplace-OH), Jane Allander-30 (Father's Birthplace-Canada, Mother's Birthplace-MA), children: Josephine-10, Walles J.-7, Birthy-4(son), Mirthy-2(dau) Theodore-16." [I am assuming that "Mirthy" is Myrtle, my Grandmother.] She was listed in her mother's obit (Jane Girard Allender) as Mrs. G. F. Brand of Shavanna, WI, and also: "She has made her home with the children and for the past three years has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Brand, in Savanna. She was a kind and conscientious woman and a loving mother, and her passing will leave a void in the hearts of her children." |

MacDonald, about 50, a summer hotel owner at Crescent City, Calif, is the skipper of a 40-foot commercial fishing boat that has been missing for a week on a trip from Cresent City to Port Orford, Oregon. On July 26, 1951 the MacDonald craft and five others left Cresent City. When seas became rough, the other boats put into Hunter's Island....but the "Carol" has not been seen since. The skippers wife, Violet, notified members of the family in Illinois. The couple has no children. MacDonald was born in Wisc., lived in Elgin for many years and later moved to Minn. About six years ago he went to the west coast. A Veteran of World War 1 he was wounded seriously." [Obituary in Puposky, Minn newspaper.] |
