Research by Jim MacDonald: "Our McDonald's seem to have liked the islands off "down east Maine". Nathaniel, sibling of John Jr, particularly liked Campobello Island New Brunswick. He and family were there on the 1851 Campo census and it is noted he arrived there in 1848. Be advised that the name on the campo census is McDaniel via McDonald. What was left of Nathaniel's family is back in Eastport Maine on the 1880 census."
