I am researching the Lawtons of Church Lawton, in Cheshire, as well as those who migrated to adjoining counties of Staffordshire and Lancashire. The family is an old one and goes back to the 12th century when they were first granted land from the Abbey of St Werburgh. Their fortunes have fluctuated over the centuries and now there is little left of their estates beyond the manor house, which is currently being restored. There are branches of the family in both the USA and Australia, as well as thousands of Lawtons living in England who can trace their roots back to the parent family.
As well as the main links to the family, I am also compiling a database of Lawtons from all over the world and any information anyone can give would be appreciated.
