I am currently researching the ancestors and descendants of James Lawrence who was probably born in the Parish of Eling, Hampshire, England about 1792. His wife Lovey was born about 1798. At the time of the 1841 census of England and Wales they lived around about Calmore, near Totton, Southhampton, England. They had the following children: Edward aged 15, Robert aged 15, James aged 14, William (my great grandfather)aged 11, John aged 8, Betsy aged 6, Mary aged 3, Eliza aged 5 months (?) It would be great to hear from some English (or otherwise) cousins! My great-grandfather, William, sailed (or was sent?!)to New Zealand in 1850 on a ship called "Cressy" at the age of about 19. He became a publican. He died in New Zealand on 19 March 1876. He appears to have married Margaret Sutherland in 1860 at Holy Trinity Church at Avonside, Christchurch, New Zealand. They had 5 children. Their two sons were William Alfred Lawrence born 1 November 1862, and James Duncan Lawrence (my grandfather) was born 11 March 1867. Their surviving daughter's name was Eliza. The other two children died in their infancy. We believe William Alfred Lawrence settled in Victoria ,Australia about 1900 (Geelong?) I would be delighted hear from any Australian relations too. Any help with the above would be most appreciated. Thank you.
