This Distinguished family name "Lawrence" is recorded in many early documents with many different spellings; John Lorence appears in the "Fleet of Fines" in Suffolk in 1268; Benedict Laurenz in Huntingdonshire in1292; John Laurens and William Lorens are both recorded in the Subaidy Rolls in sSussew in 1292.
It was only during the 11th Century that the use of surnames was introduced into the British Isles by the Normans.
Lawrence is a patronymic name meaning "Son of Lawrence" or Laurentius which was very common first name during the 12th Century.
I was set this task of researching our family history by my mother Lilian Deeker, she is married to Dad, John Lawrence.
And it is from these two points that I have researched my family tree. Back to 1800's upto the present day 2007.
Some fascinating facts and pictures have emerged. There are still sections of my living family that I have not been able to gather information on, but time will tell.
My brother Peter has joined me with gusto and added many details and family members in the last 2 months, I hope my son George will take up the mantle when I have gone.

The best way to navigate the family tree's to click on the "Internet tree" descendence tree, click on a person, then push "F" on your keyboard. This brings up a dialogue box where you can select any person. If you click on the oldest ancestor this gives you a wider tree to see.
I have tried to get the imformation as accurate as possible, but I'm sure I'll hear from you if it's not quite right, and at the same time you might like to produce some information about your branch of the tree.
