I am researching the COPELAND, LAWRENCE, NEVILLE, PITTMAN, WHEELER, HARRIS,and TURNER Families, specifically for my direct ancestors and more globally other branches of these families. My direct family lines originated in Jamestown area, and migrated south, first to Surry and Isle of Wight counties, Virginia. Later,they went into Northampton, Bertie, Halifax, Edgecombe, Martin, and Nash Counties, North Carolina.There was some migration south out of Massachusetts and New York. I am dedicating this work to my immediate and extended family, with the hopes that it will continue to help bind us all together closer. We have recently been re-united with
family members we have not seen for up forty or more years. Beyond that, We have been united with relatives that we have never know before. It takes a real effort to try and re-unite so many people. It is always easier to find an excuse not to make the effort. Many are just too busy,or not willing to make the effort, or say they want nothing to do with their family. They do not really feel this way,but lack the compassion
and courage to do what they know is right.
I continue to be encouraged by the extremely large number of people who are reaching back and trying to find their roots.we can all draw strength from our roots,when we desperately need that extra inner strength to get us through our short term crises and challenges. During these times when so many try to be totally independent of everyone else, it is really an indication of mistrust of others,even family. I want to thank so many people for their help in starting this effort. I hope they and everyone else can enjoy this work as much as I have enjoyed doing it.
