sheets, bedstead, riding horse, new briddle and saddle, cas e of
pistols, sword, musket gun, 10 cattle, 2 sows with pigs;
(3) wife and executrix, Sarah, use of the Currawaugh planta tion till John is of
age, 7 slaves, chest of drawers, 6 chairs, 10 silver spoons , trunk,
bed and furnishings, �20 in cash, horses, mares, saddles, b ridles, and
to divide the pewter and iron pots with John and Miles;
(4) daughter, Molley Lawrence , 3 slaves, bed and furnishin gs, large oval table, 1/4
of �40;
(5) daughter Ann Lawrence 3 slaves, bed, rug, 2 sheets, ste ad, oval table, 1/2 of �40;
(6) daughter Sally Lawrence , 3 slaves, bed,

(7) son Miles Lawrence , under twenty-one years, home plant ation after his mother's death, the James Baker land acros s the Branch , 2 guns, 10 cattle, 2 sows with
pigs;
(8) friend Richard Baker to get money owed by Thomas Davi s in nc, and said money to go to John and Miles Lawrence ;
(9) brother-in-law and executor Arthur Applewhite. Witness ed: John
Darden, Jesse Watkins, and Joshua Councill. On 7 Septembe r 1758, the
estate of the late William Lawrence was appraised by Danie l Herring,
Michael Eley, and Joshua Council.

William Lawrence lived in Newport Parish of Isle of Wight C ounty,
Virginia, and deeded a slave to his sister Priscilla Lawren ce , for
love on 24 May 1739, witnessed by Jeremiah Lawrence and Joh n Lawrence .
On 7 October 1739, Dr. Samuel Brown's will mentioned grandd aughter
Penelope, daughter of William and Penelope Lawrence .
On 27 July 1741, William Lawrence , Jeremiah Lawrence , an d John Darden appraised the estate of Thomas Loyd, whose wi dow was Charity Loyd. On 28 April
1742, William Lawrence , William Moore, and Jesse Brown app raised the
property of John Daughtry.
On 24 March 1745, Charles and Ann Driver deeded to Willia m Lawrence for �5/5/0 Virginia money 150 acres north of Bla ckwater heired from Ann's mother, Elizabeth Whitfield, wh o was a daughter of John Harris, adjoining James Baker an d William Lawrence .
On 12 February 1746/7, James Baker, Gent., sold William La wrence for
�35 current Virginia money 300 acres north of Main Blackwat er which
came from his father Henry Baker's will in Nansemond County , adjoining
Braswell's Branch , Robert Carr, John Lawrence , and Willia m Lawrence .
On 12 February 1746/7, William Lawrence sold to John Lawre nce for
�17/10/0 current Virginia money, 150 acres of the James Bak er tract,
witnessed by John Eley.
On 5 October 1749, William Lawrence , John Lawrence , an d William Edmons appraised the estate of William Brewer.[CI :373:?3:CI]

Notes for MILLS LAWRENCE:
On 5 June 1777, Mills Lawrence was Captain of a Militia Com pany in
Isle of Wight County, Virginia. On 7 August 1777, Henry Va ughan was
appointed Second Lieutenant in his Company. In May of 1781 , Soloman
Edmungs became his Second Lieutenant. On April 4, 1782, Mi lls
Lawrence was still on active duty as a Captain of the Mil itia. In
some records Mills' name is spelled Miles.[CI:374:?3:CI] Mi les and
Martha had no children.
