Notes for C
HARLES LAWRENCE:
Charles was under age when his father made his will in 1743 . Therefore if he became of age the following year, the ear liest he could have been born would be 1723. In the will o f Jeremiah, Charles' uncle, Charles is bequeathed land so h e was probably of legal age when that will was made in 1755 . Therefore, the latest he could have been born would be 1 734. He appears in the 1787 Northampton County , North Car olina census and is probably in the age group of over 60 o n that census which would indicated that he probably was bo rn prior to 1728.

Charles appears in Northampton County, North Carolina, in t he 1800 census.

Charles, in the will of his uncle Jeremiah Lawrence dated 3 0 November 1755, is bequeath land in Southampton County , V irginia. On 12 July 1770, Charles and wife Amey sold tha t land to John Lawrence . Southampton County VA, Dee d Book 4, pp. 285-286 13 Jul 1770 Charles LAWRENCE & wife A mey to John LAWRENCE Deed of Bargain & Sale +i90

Charles Lawrence next appears in Gates County, North Carol ina in the period 1782 through 1785. Gates County was form ed in 1779 from Chowan, Hereford, and Perquimans Counties . I believe that this is probably the Charles Lawrence tha t sold his land in Southampton County , Virginia in 1770 . I have found no other mention of a Charles Lawrence in t hese counties or surrounding area between 1770 and 1782. I n June 1782, Peter Piland sells deeds land to Joshia Jurdo n adjoining that of Charles Lawrence . In December 1784, C harles Lawrance deeds to Thomas Brickell for 30 pounds, 5 0 acres on Bennetts Creek, beginning at white oak, a corne r tree adjoining Demsey Fulks land, running across pecosi n SW to a Spanish oak on south side of shipyard, then strai ght to creek and up creek to a bushy top pine near causewa y of Bennetts Creek Bridge and along road to corner of sai d Lawrence 's orchard and up road to said Brickell's fenc e and along his line. It appears that at this time, Charle s Lawrence may have moved to Northampton County, North Caro lina. Recorded in Gates County 19 February 1794, is the s ale on one Negro woman named Sarah, one Negro girl named Wi nney, one Negro girl named Rozilla, and one Negro girl name d Venus to William Baker for 77 pounds, 10 shillings by Cha rles Lawrence of Northampton County , North Carolina. I n 1787 Charles Laurance appears as the head of household i n the North Carolina state census in Capt. Horn's Distric t with two white males between 21 and 60 years, three whit e males under 21 and above 60 years, and two white female s all ages. I believe that this is probably the Charles La wrence from Southampton County , Virginia and Gates Count y and is probably the father of the Charles Lawrence tha t married Elizabeth Daughtrey, mentioned in the will of Jes se Daughtrey in 1796. No definitive records have been foun d to prove this relationship and may never be found due t o lost and destroyed records. Likewise, no records contrad icting this possibility have been found. If this relations hip is true, the probable family members in that 1787 Nort h Carolina census are as follows: Wm 21-60 -- the younge r Charles that married Elizabeth Daughtrey Wm 21-60 -- on e of the younger Charles' brothers as mentioned in his wil l in Sumner County, Tennessee, made 8 December 1806, probab ly John Wm under 21, over 60 -- over 60, the elder Charle s whose estimated birth date is between 1723 and 1734, whic h would indicate that his birth date was probably before 17 28 Wm under 21, over 60 -- under 21, the other brother o f the younger Charles, probably Robert Wm under 21, over 2 0 -- under 21, possibly the first born of the younger Charl es, believed to be the Charles Lawrence that served in th e War of 1812 under Capt. Geo. Sarver of Sumner County , Te nnessee, and died 20 February 1815 wf -- Amey, wife of th e elder Charles wf -- Elizabeth, wife of the younger Charl es The marriage date of the younger Charles to Elizabeth D aughtrey is not known other than that they were married whe n Elizabeth's father made his will in 1796. A daughter o f the younger Charles, Amah, married John Moss in 1808. Am ah was probably was born by 1790 or earlier, therefore th e younger Charles and Elizabeth probably were married by a t least 1789 or earlier. If the above analysis of the 178 7 North Carolina census is accurate, and the Charles of th e War of 1812 was their son, they probably were married a t least by 1786. Charles Lawrence appears on the 1800 U. S . Census in Northampton County , North Carolina with one fe male over 45, probably his wife Amey, and one female age 1 0 to 16, identity unknown. No further records for this Cha rles have been located.

Marriage Notes for C
HARLES LAWRENCE and AMEY JOYNER:
Reference Number:14051
Charles witnessed the will of Joseph Joyner, recorded 8 Apr il
1760.[CI:121:?3:CI] In that will Joseph names daughter, Am ey. This
may be the Amey that is named as Charles' wife when he sell s his
property in Southampton County in 1770. If so, since Ame y was not
listed as Amey Lawrence in Joseph Joyner's will, they proba bly married
after the death of Joseph Joyner.

Children of C
HARLES LAWRENCE and AMEY JOYNER are:
110. i.   JR. CHARLES20 LAWRENCE, b. Abt. 1761, Southampton County, Virginia Formed 1749 From Isle Of Wight, Nansemond Counties; d. Abt. 1806, Sumner County, Tennessee Formed 1766.
ii.   ROBERT LAWRENCE, b. Abt. 1763, Southampton County, Virginia Formed 1749 From Isle Of Wight, Nansemond Counties (Source: TITLE, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lawrpaul/index.htm13 Park TerraceFairfield Glade, TN 38558tel.: 931-456-4776.); d. Abt. 1834, Sumner County, Tennessee Formed 1766; m. MARY DAUGHTRY; b. Abt. 1763; d. Y.
  Notes for ROBERT LAWRENCE:
Robert made his will 13 September 1828, in which he names h is wife Mary, stepson Henry H. Daughtry, Benjamin Gaines an d Nancy Gaines children of Patsy Gaines wife of Thomas B. G aines. The sale of his estate did not occur until 1834, wh ich indicates that he possibly did not die until 1834 and , therefore, could be the Robert, executor of the will of C harles Lawrence , that purchases land from Richard Vincen t for the widow and heirs of Charles Lawrence in 1833. Som e of the purchasers at the sale of his estate were Mary Law rence , Nancy Lawrence , Hardy Lawrence , and Joel H. Daug htry.

Robert Lawrence was the administrator in the inventory of t he estate of Starky Daughtry on 31 January 1818. Starky Da ughtry is probably the brother of Elizabeth Daughtry wife o f Charles Lawrence mentioned in the will of their father, J esse Daughtry, in Northampton County, North Carolina in 179 6.
