As of November 1997 I have researched the family line of my grandmother, Julia Ruane. She came to the United States in 1910 and married Peter Flaherty in New York City in 1917. Peter Flaherty emigrated to the U.S. in 1914. Both came to the U.S. from the Menlough region of Co. Galway, Ireland. They had 6 children, John, the oldest is my dad. He was born in July of 1918. Their other children were Peter,(deceased) Marie,Thomas, (deceased)Eileen(deceased), Francis. Julia's lineage goes as follows: Her parents were Martin and Mary Anne (Murphy). Martin's parents were Thaddeus Ruane and Julia aka Jude (Flannery).
Peter Flaherty's lineage goes as follows: His parents were John and Honoria Dwane (Honora Duane or Anne Devine). I have not gone back any further in this line.
The Lawrence side of the family is my husband's side of the family. This family resided in the area of Missouri. Family names researched include: Davis, Woolsey, Bell, and Bush. There is Osage (Sioux) blood lines in this family.
I have many stories to share, mostly about the Ruane side of the family. I would be happy to share these with any interested parties. I am slowly researching the family lines and would love to hear from anyone who thinks they are related or has been able to research further. Please contact me through email.
