Susan Wilhelmina Swain b. 9 Apr 1870 New Bedford, Mass. d. Date ? Providence,RI m. Frederick L. Borden Date Unk, place is Fall River, MA. First child born Norman Harrison Borden b. March 12,1894 in MA possibly Fall River area. Susan's Father Esaias Reinhold Slettengren b. 15 May 1842 Skarstad Parish, Jon Koping, Sweden is believed to have been a stowaway aboard a ship arriving inport near Fall River or New Bedford, MA. Original Surname was Slettengren and changed to Swain date unknown, possibly due to the fact that he was not 16 years of age (in other words a minor). Esaias is listed as Elias R. Swain in the WFT Index of the 1870 Census of Bristol Co.,Mass. An enlarged photocopy of the actual Census page reveals that the Census Taker makes an error then did his best to correct it by changing the "l" in Elias to "s" as it should have been in Esias.
Any Swain's tracing their lineage to Esias R. Swain of the 1870 Census mentioned above, Please E-mail me with info.
***The above info was Updated 29 Mar 1998 and could not have been possible with out the help of my cousin Shirley B. Kramer and her Daughter Christine Kramer. Many Thanks!!
