Olivier Thibodeaux settled on land above that of his cousin Amand Thibodeaux.
He received a Spanish grant of 6 arpents front x 40 arpents depth on both sides of Bayou Teche on June 20, 1771.
January 5, 1777, he received a grant of land in the Bayou Vermilion area (east of present day
Evangeline Thruway and south of Surrey St. in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Olivier's son, Theodore, also received a grant on January 5, 1777 directly above that of his father and probably included part of the present day Lafayette Municipal Golf Course.

There being no Commandant or notary in the Post, have previously contracted an accord of mutual interest with the Dec. Father Valentin, Cure of Opelousas; now wishing to conform to "la Loy Des Prince qui, par son authorite annulle tout acte de marriage ou de Testament fait par un Pretre et Cure " (the law of Princescivil law which by its authority annuls all acts of marriage and Testament preformed by a Priest and Pastor.) \
