| I am interested in the PREWETT family of Polk Co., GA. My grandfather was JESSE MARTIN PREWETT, b. 1/21/1859, d. 12/31/1922, buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, near Cedartown, GA. He married first EMMA DOOLEY, then my grandmother, MARTHA ELIZABETH "MATTIE" GARNER 4/6/1904. He had 3 brothers, WILLIAM F. "BUD" PREWETT, JAMES M. "JIM" PREWETT and ALBERT LEE PREWETT, and 2 sisters, AMANDA "MANDY" PREWETT and SARAH PREWETT. Their father was JESSE PREWETT b. 1830 in NC. He and the family are listed in the 1860 St.Claire Co., AL census. He served in the Confederate Army and is said to have fought at Chickamauga. He apparently died about 1868 to 1870, because his youngest son was born in 1869 and their mother was listed as head of household in the 1870 St.Claire Co., AL census. Their mother's name was MALINDA EVELINE CROW PREWETT (dau. of SAMUEL B. and SARAH CROW) and she married THOMAS LAWSON in 10/17/1875 in Polk Co., GA. They had a son, ROBERT LAWSON b. 1877. She and the 5 youngest children are listed in the Polk Co., GA 1880 census and she is again the head of the household. On various censuses, my grandfather listed his birthplace as AL and his father's NC. My g-grandmother, MALINDA PREWETT, was listed as born in GA. I'm looking for the death date and place of burial for my g-grandfather, JESSE PREWETT, probably in St.Claire Co., AL and any information on his parents and siblings. Also, any information on the parents of my gg-grandfather, SAMUEL B. CROW, b. in GA in 1804. I am also looking for my husband's family, the LEDFORDS, from near Cleveland, White Co.,GA. His grandfather was EMORY LEDFORD (1885-1934) who is thought to have come from Murphy, NC and who married LENORA "NORA" PALMER (1876-1961) in White Co., GA. They moved to Cedartown, Polk Co., GA around 1927-28. Both are buried at Oak Grove Cemetery outside Cedartown, GA. I would appreciate any information that would carry me back further on these families or any suggestions anyone has. |
