Several of my cousins are assisting me in researching ancestors, siblings, and descendants of Randaulph Lee (my great grandfather) of Mississippi. His name is frequently found with the more common spelling of Randolph but his preferred spelling appears to have been Randaulph. Family records indicate that Randaulph was born March 29, 1839, somewhere in Mississippi. Inconsistencies in his records leave some doubt as to his actual birth date and no records have been found to substantiate his Civil War and earlier youth or the place of his birth. He died in 1921 and is buried in the Rushing Cemetery, Walthall County, MS. His Pension Applications for Confederate Service submitted in 1914 and 1919 indicate he was living in "Simpson" (assumed to be Simpson County, MS) in 1861 when he enlisted in the CSA. Some think he was a son of a William Lee (b. abt. 1800 in SC and settled in Simpson County, MS abt. 1830) and the grandson of Needham Lee (b. abt. 1775 in NC, lived in SC when his children were born, then settled in Simpson County, MS, abt. 1826-1829). Some family stories passed down hint that Randaulph descended from another Lee line in southern Mississippi. After the Civil War he settled in Old Pike County, MS, now Walthall County, MS. Randaulph died in 1921 and left a large number of descendants (10 sons of which 2 died in infancy, and 3 daughters). One of his sons, Jesse Monroe Lee (1872-1937), is my grandfather. I currently have a descendants family file numbering 1635 individuals that starts with Randaulph Lee and his wife Mary Jane Rushing (Lee). A privatized version of the Genealogy Report for this Lee file as of June 2, 2008, can be viewed by clicking the appropriate blue line in the Report Section below. Family members are requested to submit additions, corrections, whatever to this writer. -----A Y-Chromosome Lee DNA Genealogy Project is ongoing with two descendants of Randaulph Lee included in the 153 total Lee male participants tested in the project as of June 2008. The project was initiated in June, 2002, and is hosted by Relative Genetics of Salt Lake City, Utah. The project host is in the process of being shifted to Ancestry.com. At this time the Randaulph Lee descendants are in a closely matching (genetically kin by DNA test results) group of 25 Lee male participants in the project. These 25 Lee males appear to all descend from a John Lee (b.? d.c. 1739, received a 1694 Land Grant in Nansemond Co., VA). Anyone interested in following this project should contact this writer.-----
