| Hi. I am searching for the Williams family of Orrum/Robeson County, North Carolina and the Legette family of Dillon South Carolina. I have found, from the Williams side, Dove Williams, b. 9/9/1888, parents to him are Hardy Williams and Joyce Stephens, both of Robeson County, North Carolina. Hardy or Hardee Williams was born October 15, 1841. His father was Giles Williams and his mother was Mary Nichols. Giles father's name was Bright Williams. Bright Williams was born August 23, 1799 in Robeson Co., North Carolina. He married Sarah Thompson on April 7, 1825. Sarah was born March 23, 1806 and passed away October 24, 1884. I came to this conclusion by searching http://www.familysearch.org. Dove married Bertha Novel Thompson/Barfield. They had four children. Bertha Sarah Williams, Hardy Bright Williams, Janet Faye Williams and Lena Rivers Williams (My mother). Bertha passed away on March 15, 1997. Hardy B. Williams passed away on August 22, 1998. Bertha had several siblings. Nancy Thompson married a Mr. Woodard/Woodward and moved up North, Pennsylvania area. Beady was her sister she passed away also and Uncle Pash. Grand-Daddy Dove had a brother named Jake/Zeke. It is told to me by my mother that my grandfather (Dove) was Blackfoot and my grandmother (Bertha) was cherokee, white and black mixed. This is when the Legette side comes in... My mother, Lena married Joe Nathan Legette of Dillon, South Carolina. Joe's father's name was Benjamin Buddy LeGette. There are some discrepancies with the spelling of the name LeGette or Legette. Benjamin was born August 15, 1914, in Marion South Carolina, which is very close to Dillon. His parents name is listed on his social security application as Robert LeGette and Laura LeGette. Laura's maiden name is not listed, which leaves me stuck on her side of the family. Benjamin Buddy LeGette worked at Dillon Motor Sales, Inc. If you have any information on my family please contact me. The Legette's have evolved into a large family in New York as well as Dillon, South Carolina. This is an African American family. I am more than willing to share. Also I have a contact person for the White LeGette's of Georgia so please feel free to contact me and I will direct you to the individual. Let's all try to work together on this, this is one goal we all are trying to obtain. Peace and Love, Good Luck All Angel Legette |
