The material within this site represents approximately twenty years of gathering, researching, communicating, and countless hours of mergeing, and then correcting major files, until, at last, I have refined it into a huge Family Tree. In this one Tree, I was able to include both my Maternal Ancestors to 1623 in the person of John Redland of the Orkney Isles, Scotland, and my Paternal Ancestors to 1770 in the person of Joseph Leger of Oggersheim, Germany. This one file contains 20 Generations, 13,984 Individuals, 4,834 Marriages, and 2,918 different Surnames. It does date to 1520 in the person of D.E. Copeland.

The Ancestral Name of "Leger" has remained intact from 1770 to the present time. However, the "Redland" name has gone through several variations as; "Redlon", "Ridlon", "Ridlen", "Ridley", and "Redley". While some "Redland's" can be found in the United States today, they can still be found in the "Orkney Isles" of Scotland. Additionally, this surname in the United Kingdom has evolved into "Ridland".

As a novice, it was difficult for me to fathom, but it was amazing how the number of persons within the "Tree" increased generation to generation, and the amount of territory and Historic Era's that were covered in the process. As time went on, and to this day, I was amazed to see the the process, that started with one person, Magnus Redlon, in 1717, on the rocky coast of Maine, and in the course of four hundred years, has created a legacy of history, of accomplishments, of failures and heartbreak, triumphs and tragedies, which has been woven into a tapestry of life.

My desire is to furnish a site where any person, family or non-family, who may be researching their history, or just merely curious about this large family, can just "jump in". I see myself as more of a gatherer of family data, rather than a researcher, and my goal is to aid all who request it, while providing a link to some of the far flung fragments of family history. In the process, I hope to further increase the size of the Tree. By Sharing, we all gain.
