Notes for Jerome Ransom Melton:
He was a dentist. He practiced in Van Zandt county, Marion county, and Harrison county. He was in Mo. Confederate cavalry all through the war and was seriously wounded (Hunter and Younger brigades and under Shelby).
Jerome was the last of the brothers to leave Cole Co..He was still here in 1870, sold up and moved to Benton Co. Ark.He lived there a few years where a daughter was born. They moved on to Texas by 1876.In the probate of Wm N. (brother)Jerome is listed as Romulus instead of Jerome

(fact) family tale " When her son Snelling went off to join the fighting as a confederate, Susan and baby Julia Ann went to live with her brother Tommy Taylor in Cole Co. That is when Julia Ann set her cap for her younger cousin Jimar Taylor despite much family opposition (too close a relationship)"Snelling Johnson was a pioneer Baptist preacher that lived in early Cole Co.and neighbor to the Meltons.
