After attending the Congres Mondial Acadien 2004 in Nova Scotia, I really began my quest for the family roots. This has led to many hours on my PC, in the Library, and in South Louisiana, visiting older relatives, visiting Catholic Churches, graveyards, the ULL Library, Courthouses, etc. gathering information, pictures, and stories. I grew up in Iota, Louisiana believing that all of our family were Cajun. I have since learned that there are actually only a few of the many branches of the family that were Acadian. Most came directly to Louisiana from France, with origins in France, and even further back, some from Germany (Prussia), and other parts of Europe. I am happy to be able to share this information, and where there are inaccuracies, as there will be, I am sorry. May God Bless all who have labored and loved, prayed and danced, sung and sweat, to make it possible for our lives today. |
