He married (2) MARTHA PATSEY MCHENRY September 03, 1818 in Anson Co., NC. She was born Abt. 1784 (Source: Revolutionary War Pension File for Emanuel Teal R10440, Carroll Co., GA, dated October 16, 1855 "aged 71 years."), and died Bet. October 1855 - 1859.

Notes for E
MANUEL TEAL JR.:
Military Service:
July 20, 1778 lists Emanuel Teal Jr. as a a private in Captain Child's Company in NC during the Revolutionary War. "Pierce's Register of NC Revolutionary War Soldiers", Volume II, pages 46-73, book ZZ, page 194, #46, lists Emanuel Teal. "Pierce's Register" (Old Series) Volume 5, Book L, # 11, 175-180, page 216 lists Emanuel Teal.

Pitt Co., NC, 1783:
Bradbury Teal, grantor, to Emanuel Teal, grantee, 50 acres for 10 pounds.

Pitt Co., NC Deed Book "H", October 27, 1779:
William Wilson, grantor, to Emanuel Teal Jr., grantee, 250 acres for 500 pounds. Witnesses: William Robson, Matt Moore.

1783, Pitt County, North Carolina:

February 4, 1786:

There was a Samuel Tyson married to an Edney Teal, unknown relation.

1790 Census of Pitt Co., NC, page 454a, roll M637_7:
Teal, Emanuel Jr.
1 male over 16 years (Emanuel Jr. born 1758)
2 males under 16 years
1 female
no slaves
He was living in the vicinity of Everett Pollard (husband of Anna Teal) and Joseph Brierly (husband of Elizabeth Teal). Other Teals listed in 1790 census include Bradbury, Emanuel Sr., Jacob, Loderick, Moses, Richard, and William Sr.

1800 Census of Anson Co., NC with Emanuel Teal Jr. as head of the household with
1 male under 10 years (son, Wash Teal born 1799)
1 male 10-16 years
1 male 16-26 years
1 male over 45 years (Emanuel Jr., born 1758)
1 female under 10 (Mary Northan, born about 1792 per Emanuel's pension application)
1 female 26-45 years
Note: Emanuel Teal Jr.'s children from his first marriage other than George Washington 'Wash" Teal and Mary Teal Northan, are not specifically stated, but many Teal researchers believe his children to include Meshack Teal Sr. (who witnessed the land deed between George Washington Teal and Lacy Hattaway) and Thomas Teal.

1810 Census of Anson Co., NC, page 6:
1 male 0-10 years (son, Wash Teal born 1799, was about 11 years old)
1 male age 16-25 years (born between 1785-1794)
2 males age 26-44 years (born between 1766-1784)
1 male over 45 years (Emanuel, born in 1758, was 52 years old)
2 females age 10-15 years (born between 1795-1800)
1 female age 26-44 years (born between 1766-1784)
Of the unknown females in this house, his daughter Martha Teal should not be considered - she had married John Nail before 1802. His daughter, Mary Teal Northan, was 18 and may have already been married or may be included in an incorrect age group. Emanuel Teal Jr. did not marry Martha Patsey McHenry until 1818, so the female 26-44 years was either Emanuel's first wife of an elder daughter.

1820 Census of Anson Co., NC:
Teal, Emanuel

1827 Mormon IGI index has him listed as a member of the Cherokee Nation, Native American.

Authentic List of all Land Lottery Grants Made to Veterans of the Revolutionary War by the State of Georgia, Emanuel Teal, a resident of Jasper Co., GA in 1827, was granted land on January 19, 1830 in Lee Co., GA, land lot #95, district #21. "Reprint of Official Register of Land Lottery of Georgia, 1827" on the 26th days drawing (April 5th), Jasper County, page 80, fortunate drawer Emanuel Teal (Revolutionary War Soldier) from Captain Wilson's District, # 95, District 21, draw in Lee Co., GA.

1830 Census of Henry Co., GA, Federal Population Schedule, page 213:
Teal, Emanuel, no other information
Also listed in the 1830 Census of Henry Co., GA is "Washington Teal", most likely his son.

October 16, 1855, Carroll County, Georgia, Revolutionary War pension application #R10440:
Emanuel Teal Jr.'s widow, Mrs. Martha Teal, age 71 (therefore born about 1784), applies for a Revolutionary War pension. Her application states that Emanuel enlisted in Pitt County, NC in Captain Hogan's North Carolina Company for 3 years service and that she married him in 1818 in Anson Co., NC. Martha stated that he died on January 10, 1833 before Judge Henry P. Worthen. Witnesses Charles Phillips and Burrell Nail say that they have known Mrs. Martha Teal for 30 years (since about 1825) and that Nail knew Emanuel Jr. 15 years before his death (since about 1818) and Phillips knew Emanuel Jr. 6 years before his death (since about 1827). Mrs. Martha Teal appointed Samuel M. Bight (?) as her attorney, but her request for a pension was denied due to lack of records and information.
Notes of interest: Burrell Nail was Emanuel Teal Jr.'s grandson (born in 1802 to Martha Teal and John Nail). Charles Phillips was Emanuel Teal Jr.'s grandson-in-law (husband to Burrell's sister, Sarah Nail, born in 1810). With Burrell and Sarah Nail's mother, Martha Teal Nail, born about 1785, she could not have been Martha McHenry Teal's daughter. Likewise Mary Teal Northan (born 1792) and George Washington Teal (born 1799) could not have been Martha McHenry Teal's children - not to mention the fact that she married Emanuel Teal Jr. when he was 60 years of age.

Mrs. J.S. Kirkpatrick
Belle Meade Drive
Nashville, Tennessee

Dear Madam,
Reference is made to your letter in which you request information in
regard to Jacob and Emanuel Teal or Teel, of North Carolina, Levy Teal
of the Virginia Line and William Teal of Virginia.
There is no claim for pension or bounty land on file based upon the
military service in the Revolutionary War of a Jacob, Levy or William
Teel or Teal. Such claims are the source of the data furnished by this
office.
The record of Emanuel Teal follows as found in the claim for pension R
10440, based upon his military service in the Revolutionary War.
The date and place of birth and names of the parents of Emanuel Teal
are not shown.
Emanuel Teal married Patsey McHenry. The marriage bond was dated
September 3, 1818, in Anson County, North Carolina. The date and place
of birth of Patsey are not shown.
The soldier died in Henry County, Georgia, January 1, 1830, as stated by
his daughter, or January 10, 1833 as stated by his widow.
October 16, 1855, at which time she was aged seventy-one years and a
resident of Carroll County, Georgia, Martha (as she signed) Teal,
applied for the pension that might have been due on account of the
service of her husband, Emanuel Teal, in the Revolutionary War, and
alleged that her husband enlisted in Pitt County, North Carolina, and
served in Captain Hogan's North Carolina Company; she gave no dates of
service but alleged three years' service. Her claim was not allowed as
she failed to furnish proof of service as required by the pension laws.
The date of the widow's death is not shown, but she was deceased in 1859.
The only name of a child of the soldier that is given is daughter, Mary
Northan, who, in 1866, was aged about seventy-four years and resided
near Atlanta, Georgia. The name of her husband was not stated.
In 1904, Nathaniel Teal, of DeQueen, Arkansaw, stated that he was a
grandson of the Revolutionary War soldier Emanuel Teal, and in 1905,
Allen Teal, of Pittsburg, Texas, stated that he was, also, a grandson.
Neither gave the names of their parents.

Very truly yours,
A.D. Hiller
Executive Assistant
to the Administrator
Note: Both Josiah Nathaniel Teal of Arkansas and Allen Teal of Texas were sons of George Washington Teal and Sarah Little.
