Military service in the Confederate Army:
John enlisted March 4, 1862 as a Confederate private in Co. H, 44th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia. He was wounded and captured May 10, 1864 at Spotsylvania, VA. He was paroled from Fort Delaware about February 15, 1865.
