Madison Co., AL was founded on Dec. 13, 1808 from the Cherokee and Chickasaw Nations. It is not known if this was the same Emanuel Hattaway, but our Emanuel Hattaway listed in his Confederate pension application that he had lived all of his life in the state of Georgia except for the years 1857 and 1858, when he lived in Alabama.
1860 Census of Campbell Co., GA, page 46, dwelling Ś, family ő, enumerated June 20, 1860, post office - Campbellton: Hattaway, Samuel (spelling incorrectly), age 31, real estate valued at $800, personal property valued at $850;

Note: Living previous to Emanuel is William Hopkins and family; living immediately after him is the family of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mapp; and then the family of their sister, Mrs. Mary Teal.
Military Service: Emanuel enlisted on May 1, 1862 at Campbellton, GA in the 2nd Georgia Volunteer Cavalry, Company "I" and surrendered on April 26, 1865 near Greensboro, NC (film number M226, roll 27).
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Index states that the 2nd Georgia Cavalry "assembled at Albany, Georgia, in February, 1862, contained men from Randolph, Doughterty, Clayton, Marion, Fulton, and Decatur counties...The regiment participated in various conflicts such as Perryville (Kentucky on October 8, 1862 under General Braxton Bragg), Murfreesboro (Tennessee from December 5-7, 1864 under Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest), Chickamauga (Georgia from September 18-20, 1863 under General Braxton Bragg and Lieutenant General James Longstreet), Philadelphia, Campbell's Station (Tennessee on November 16, 1863 under Lieutenant General James Longstreet), Bean's Station (Tennessee on December 14, 1863 under Lieutenant General James Longstreet), and Mossy Creek (Tennessee on December 29, 1863 under Major General William T. Martin).
Later it was involved in the Atlanta Campaign, the defense of Savannah, and the campaign of the Carolinas. On April 26, 1865, the 2nd Georgia Cavalry surrendered with only 18 men."
On a Confederate pension application dated November 04, 1908, Emanuel stated that he had previously owned 320 acres of land worth $1800, 2 mules worth $275, furniture worth $40, and cows and hogs worth $50. He also stated that he had lived all of his life in the state of GA except for the years 1857 and 1858, when he lived in AL. On a later application, he claimed that he held 160 acres of land worth $900, 2 mules worth $150, a cow and a yearling worth $25, hogs worth $20, furniture worth $40, and $8 worth of sheep.

, the northeast corner between Emanuel and his mother, Mrs. E. Hattaway is the line "this fence runs east to west."
