RECORDS OF DAVID AND MARY (CASH) HATTAWAY


1860 Census of Campbell Co., GA, page 45, dwelling ŏ, family Ń, enumerated June 20, 1860, post office - Campbellton
:
Haterway (spelled incorrectly), David, age 24
Mary, age 30.
Note: David was living immediately next door to his father, Lacy Hattaway.

Military Service in the Confederate Cavalry and Infantry:
Dave enlisted in the 2nd Georgia Cavalry, Company "I" with his brother, Emanuel, and later in the 30th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Company "K" (film &# M226, roll 27).. He was wounded July 22, 1864 at the Battle of Peachtree Creek and was sent to a hospital between Macon and Griffin, GA, where his left leg was removed. He stated on his pension application that after his left leg was removed he was taken "to a sister's home in Alabama" (probably Naomi Teal). He was at home recovering when his company surrendered in North Carolina. He received a $25 pension in 1888, then $50 from 1889 to at least 1902. He received a military pension through his death. His pension application was signed with a mark - no signature. Despite walking on a peg leg, Dave farmed until his death at age 86.

Campbell Co., GA Deed Book "G", pages 176-177, August 25, 1868:
After his father Lacy's death, David received 95 acres section , 85 acres in the northeast corner, and 10 acres in lot on the south side in the length of his other lot. His brother, Emanuel, paid David $120.83 to adjust his inheritance.

1870 Census of Campbell Co., GA, Goods District, dwelling ؖ:
Hattaway, David, age 40, real estate valued at $1,000, personal property valued at $500, born in GA;
Mary age 40, born in GA.

1880 Census of Campbell Co., GA:
Hattaway, Dave age 51, born in GA, farmer, father born in NC, mother born in
SC
Mary age 56, born in GA, both parents born in GA
Harketh, Stella, age 2, "daughter", born in GA, both parents born in GA

1900 Census of Campbell Co., GA, dwelling õ, family ù:
Hattaway, David, a widower
Cash, Maggie E., niece, born 5/1875
Cash, Mary A., niece, born 5/1878.


Campbell County Will Book B, page 456, written April 22, 1915:
David (who was a widower) left half of his estate to Mrs. Stella Eskew (who was perhaps his adopted daughter) and half to his nieces, Mrs. Maggie Mapp and Mary Ann Cash. His will was administered by his friend, Dr. T. P. Bullard.
